Wacky Wednesday

We had a wacky Wednesday in Room 203. We began the day with our regular morning activities. We also got a chance to find our new desk and carpet seats. We read "When Tillie Turtle Comes to Tea" and also learned about Dr. Maulana Karenga, the creator of Kwanzaa. After Road to Reading, we had Writer's Workshop. We used what we've learned to start our last narrative story of the unit. We hope to finish it tomorrow and revise next week. After snack and indoor recess (it started to rain as we walked outside), we read "Wacky Wednesday" and had ELA Workshop. This was our first day in new groups: orange, green, and purple. Students independently worked on "T" phonics and sentences. My groups combined two animals to make a wacky one. And everyone visited a new secret center. They include: Drawing with markers at the Art Center, LexiaCore5 games on the iPad at the Computer Center, addition practice at the Math Center, exploring Arithmasticks at the Mystery Center, sequencing a story at the Reading & Writing Center, and finding weather words at the Science Center.

After lunch, we reviewed sight words, recited "Polly Put the Kettle On," and had math. We visualized numbers and determined if they were more or less than each other. For Star of the Week, Ellie shared a favorite book. She did a great job reading "Spring is Here" to the class. We ended the day with Second Step. Ms. J.C. and Mrs. Z helped present the topic of handling being knocked down. We practiced scenarios and what to do or say after we calm down. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and passed out certificates for staying green all of February. Keep it up!
