Plants

We had a nice Wednesday in Room 203. We began our day with our regular morning activities, read "Spring is Here!" and had HWT. Next we had Writer's Workshop. We are starting a new unit on "How-To" books, so we read some examples of "How-To" books and came up with some ideas of how to write them. We thought that they are similar to writing our true stories, except that we are telling the reader hot to do something. Like our  narratives, we tell the steps in order. The difference is that we are going to try and number each step with numbers or words. We had a nice start, and will continue again tomorrow! After snack and recess, we read "V is for Vulture" and had ELA Workshop. My groups read Sam and Mat book #5 and identified the parts of a plant: roots, stem, leaves, plus flower petals. Independently, we worked on "V" phonics and sentences with "V" words. We also had time for a secret center.

After lunch, we reviewed sight words, recited "There Was a Crooked Man," and had math. We looked more at number bonds, using pictures to find the numbers that are connected. We're getting there!  For Star of the Week, George brought some toys (his tablet, a "Hedbanz" game, and an Avengers puzzle), plus his favorite book, "The BFG." We read the first chapter together. The class liked it!  To end the day, we had Second Step. Mrs. Z and I reviewed the  topic of inviting others to play. Then we practiced that skill by asking others to play something together in class. It was fun! Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home.
