More With "Short U"

We had a fast Tuesday in Room 203. We began the day by collecting library books and with our morning activities. We read "Umbrellabird's umbrella" and came up with more "short u" words. After HWT and Road to Reading, we had Writer's Workshop. We went through our writing for this narrative unit and picked our best, favorite story. Then we revised it and practiced reading it for our celebration day later this week.  After snack and recess, we read "U is for Unicorn" and had ELA Workshop. Student worked on reading and matching "short u" words and writing "short u" sentences. My groups read and looked at a Time for Kids issue about animals that come from eggs while I assessed for number and shape recognition. We also visited a secret center.

After lunch, we reviewed sight words, recited "Little Boy Blue," and had some phonics practice. Then we started our Tuesday run of specials. First, we visited the library. Mr. Withers was out, but Mrs. Frost and Mrs. Alexander read us a story and let us check out a book. Next we had Spanish. Sra Colmenero was out so we watched a video about Puerto Rico. Finally, we had P.E. with Mr. Simatic. The class did more gymnastics exercises including the springboard and rings. When we got back to the room, we had Star of the Week. We reviewed what we know about Gabriel before he shared some toys. He had a Minecraft game, a stuffed Mickey Mouse toy, and a flute. The class liked them all! Then we packed up, reviewed homework, read a couple of books about bears, and lined up for home.
