The Letter U

We had a busy Monday back in Room 203. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders (we got them all-everyone was here today!) and with our morning activities,  which included the Pledge and BeyeLaws, updating our calendar, practicing our poem, the alphabet song, the vowel song, and morning exercises. We read "My 'U' Book" and brainstormed some "short u" words before using crayons, glue and plastic forks, knives, and spoons to make the tactile page "Utensils on 'U's on an Umbrella." After Road to Reading, we had snack before working on "U" handwriting and sentences. After recess, we went to Art. Ms. Sundquist had the class start to glaze their pinch pots. It is a long process, so we will continue to glaze our clay objects next week.

After lunch, we learned our new sight words for the week, recited "Little Boy Blue," and practiced some phonics skills. At Music, we had "Music Centers" for the first time and moved to a steady beat. For math, we began a new module (and workbook). We started a unit on number pairs, addition and subtraction by introducing number bonds. Students saw two numbers and discovered the number they both are connected to. For Star of the Week, we introduced Gabriel. He shared his cool poster and took questions from the class. We ended the day in the Computer Lab. We  worked more with LexiaCore5 games. Then we packed up, reviewed our new homework packet, and lined up for home.

Be sure to look over homework packets for the week. They include a "Leprechaun Trap" project for next week, the March Minute Madness Reading Challenge for next week, and a book order for this week. Let me know if you have questions about any of them. Let's have a great week!
