Observing Wood and Shape Town

We had a nice Friday in Room 203. We began our day by collecting Friday Folders and taking care of our morning activities. We also read "The Foot Book" by Dr. Seuss and had  HWT. After Road to Reading, we talked about our favorite Dr. Seuss book. Each student wrote which was their favorite and why. In Spanish, we looked at "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," plus fruits and the days of the week with Sra. Colmenero. In P.E., the class had more gymnastics activities with Mr. Simatic. When we returned to our room, we had science. We continued our investigation of wood by seeing how wood reacts when mixed with water. We used eyedroppers to put drops of water on different kinds of wood to see if it would be absorbed, bead up, or spread out. Then we put pieces of wood in water to see if it would sink or float. Fun!

After lunch, we reviewed sight words, recited "Polly Put the Kettle On," and had math. After a counting sprint, we had a mini-lesson on addition. We learned how to find sums in our heads and with our fingers. For Star of the Week, Ellie shared three silly jokes. We also read our letters to her. After recess, we ended our day with Art. We heard the story "Shape Town" and then made our own "Shape Town" pictures using geometric shapes. Then we packed up Friday Folders, passed out prizes for twenty super star sticks, and lined up for home.

Have a great weekend!
