The Letter D

We had a nice Monday in Room 203. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders, sorting lunches, and taking care of our morning activities. We also introduced classroom jobs today. Students will have a job with a partner for two weeks before they switch to another. Jobs include: Calendar Updater, Door Holder/Line Leader, Librarian/Toy Organizer, Lunch Helper, Mail Carrier, Table Setter, and Teacher Assistant. We hope that these jobs will help students be more responsible and make our room more efficient. After HWT and Road to Reading, we introduced our letter of the week, "D." After reading "My 'D' Book" we brainstormed "D" words and made the tactile page "Dots on 'D's on a Duck." After snack and recess, we had Art with Ms. Sundquist. Students got to paint again today!

After lunch, we learned our new poem "Hey, Diddle, Diddle" and practiced our letter and phonics skills. In Music, Mrs. Hanson had us work more with loud and quiet voices. In math, we practiced counting with the rekenrek, counting with fingers, using cubes, and more. We also practiced writing numbers from 0 to 3, identifying numbers to 3, and putting numbers in order.  We spent more time in the Computer Lab working on Lexia Core 5, as well. When we got back to the room, we passed out homework, packed up our backpacks, passed out certificates for an all-green month, and sang a quick "Happy Birthday" to Mr. Ricker. We may have gotten a small gift, too. (Oh, and thank you so much for the card and treats. They're delicious!) Let's have a great week!

Be sure to look over homework packets for the week. Remember that we should bring in library books tomorrow. Fill out permission slips for our field trip on Thursday ASAP. Contact me if you want to chaperone, or have any questions or concerns.
