The Rainbow Fish

We had another eventful day in Room 2. Because of the rain, we began our Friday inside. We collected homework and had Nutrition at our desks. After our morning activities, we read "The Rainbow Fish." At language arts rotations, students made their own Rainbow Fish. We used the cutouts from our project on Wednesday, drew the parts of the fish we learned yesterday, and then cut and glued different colored paper "scales." We even added one shiny scale like the Rainbow Fish had in the story. They look cool!  My groups read Sam and Mat book #11 and wrote the numbers from 1-100. The other groups had the last secret center of this rotation. After indoor recess (it was still wet), we reviewed all 120 sight words from the year, recited "Jack Sprat," and had math. We looked and compared solid figures. We learned which could roll, stack, and slide.

After lunch, we finished our math. Then we practiced our songs for the culmination. Mrs. Navarrette dropped by to help us with our new, third song. After that, Lila's mom stopped by to be a guest reader. She shared three books!  We watched a video on coral reefs before having Star of the Week. Aaron had us estimate wheel pasta. There were 99 wheel pasta pieces. Then we went outside to say goodbye to the butterflies. We set them free by the flowers. To end the day, we celebrated Ethan's birthday. His grandma brought cupcakes and drinks for whole class. Then we packed up, gave out prizes for twenty super star sticks, passed our certificates for an all-green week, and lined up for home.  Have a great weekend!
