More With Butterflies and a Taste Experiment

We had a full Wednesday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and our morning business. Then we read the story"Butterflies." At language arts rotations, students made butterfly art. They scraped old crayons with scissors onto wax paper. We then placed another sheet of wax paper on top and melted the crayon with an iron. Students took that colorful design and attached it to a butterfly outline.  They look very cool!  They're now on display on our class windows. Special thanks to Alexander' mom and Jayden's mom for helping out today. We couldn't have done this project without you! My groups read "The Bud is Up" and wrote about our favorite insect in our kindergarten journals. The other groups had secret centers.  After recess, we reviewed sight words, recited "It's Raining," and had math. We worked on the concepts of in front of and behind.

After lunch, Leland shared her animal report & diorama project on the lion.  Then we reviewed the five senses and read the book "Tasting." Then we had a taste experiment. We tried five different foods that have different tastes. We tried pumpkin seeds (salty), an apple (sweet), dark chocolate (bitter), lemon (sour), and a Hot Cheeto (spicy). Not surprisingly, the class enjoyed  this experiment. Then we shared Sophia's animal report & diorama project in the bottlenose dolphin. We also practiced our culmination song. For Star of the Week, Abby shared her favorite book "Mad at Mommy." The class liked it a lot!  We ended the day with P.E. with Coach Angel and in the library with Mrs. Singh. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home!
