Music and a Popcorn Party

We had a great Friday in Room 2. We began the day by collecting homework and having Nutrition outside. It was a bit chilly, so it was nice to come inside and read "From Caterpillar to Butterfly." At language arts rotations, students worked on more "L Blends," focusing on "bl, cl, and fl." My groups worked on opinion writing. Students decided whether a dog or a cat was a better pet and wrote sentences supporting their choice. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we practiced all 115 sight words we have introduced this year, recited "It's Raining," and had math. We reviewed our position words, locating objects in a picture that were inside, outside, above, below, in front, behind, or to the left or right.

Our poem of the week was prophetic, as lunch recess ended with some rain. Fortunately, we had music next, which is held on the big yard in Room 32. Ms. Phiri had the class rehearse our songs for Tuesday's workshop/performance for parents. It will be from 1:45-2:30 in Room 32.  When we got back to our room, we had Star of the Week. Abby had the class estimate pom poms. There were 60 pom poms. Dylan guessed it exactly!  It was still drizzling, so we had indoor choose time instead of P.E.  To end the day, we had a popcorn party. We earned it with good behavior and listening this week. We watched "The Magic School Bus: Butterfly and the Bog Beast" and had a cup of popcorn. Then we packed up, gave out prizes for twenty super star sticks, and passed out certificates for an all-green week.  Have a great weekend!

Don't forget to finish up work on the Animal Report & Diorama projects, which are due on Wednesday, May 13th. And be sure to have a Happy Mother's Day!
