S Blends Plus Beauty and the Beast

We had a great Monday back in Room 2. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders and having our morning activities. To introduce our new "S" blends, we read "Sleepyhead Sloth" and brainstormed some "sl," "sc," and "sw" words.  At language arts rotations, students worked on "S" blend phonics and sentences. My groups wrote an opinion paragraph about "The Best Pet." The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we learned our new sight words, recited the poem "Jack Sprat," and had math. We reviewed Topic 15 and then introduced Topic 16: Analyzing, Comparing, and Composing Shapes.

After lunch, we continued our them of Amazing Creatures. We will be talking about animals that live in the ocean for the next two weeks. We read "At the Ocean," and then identified animals that live or don't live in the ocean. Next, we introduced Aaron as our Star of the Week. He shared a very nice poster and took questions from the class. At 1:00, we were invited to the auditorium to see the fourth grade dress rehearsal of the musical "Beauty and the Beast." Our reading buddies from Mr. Bassett's Room 19 were the performers for our show and did an amazing job!  The class was very focused on the songs and story and were a wonderful audience for the production, which lasted over an hour.  We had some recess after the show before packing up, getting our homework, and lining up for home. Let's have a great week!

Be sure to look over homework packets for the week. Note that tomorrow (Tuesday), we have a music workshop/performance in Room 32 at 1:45 P.M. Parents are welcome to attend. Also, Animal Report & Diorama projects are due on Wednesday, so finish them up soon!
