The Five Senses

We had a good Wednesday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and our morning activities. Then we read the story "Flowers."  At language arts rotations, students worked on making a plant life cycle "crown" by coloring, ordering and pasting the stages onto a fitted ring. They look nice! Hopefully, they made it home today, too. My groups read "Ed Can, Ted Can" and wrote about plants in our kindergarten journals.  The other groups had their final secret center of this rotation. After recess, we praticed sight words, recited "Oh Where, Oh Where, Has My Little Dog Gone?" and had math. We worked on making picture graphs in groups using shape counters.

After lunch, Kayla read us a story and we had science. We started by observing the changes in our celery experiment from Monday. Students used magnifying glasses to note that the water moved up the celery to the top. We learned that this is how plants are able to get water to the rest of the plant and survive. Next, we began a new unit on the five senses by reading the book "The Five Senses." We learned that the five senses are seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching. Today our experiment was to make an optical illusion to fool our eyes. We made a picture with a fish on one side and a fishbowl with water on the other. By spinning the paper, our eyes got tricked into thinking the fish was in the water!  At P.E., Coach Angel had us play croquet. At library, Mrs. Singh read "Sally Goes to the Beach" and had us check out new books. A few students forgot their library books today. If that happens, please bring them as soon as you can so that your child can check out another book. We want to practice good, responsible habits in our students, so encourage them to keep books in a safe place like their backpack during the week. Then we packed up and headed for home!

Remember that Spring Picture Day is tomorrow. Everyone will get their photograph taken. You can decide to buy or not buy pictures later.
