Bees and a Smell Experiment

It was a fun Wednesday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition outside and our morning activities. Then we read the story "Bees" and reviewed what we know. At language arts rotations, students made their own bee with tissue paper wings. My groups wrote about insects in "My Insect Book." The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we practiced sight words, recited "Hot Cross Buns" and had math. We reviewed solid figures and then examined the flat shapes you see in solid figures.

After lunch, we had science. We continued our unit on the five senses by reading "Smelling" and then having a smell experiment. We smelled balloons filled with different flavored extracts and tried to figure out which smell was which. The class had fun trying to figure them out! We had peppermint, vanilla, orange, banana, and maple syrup scents. We wrapped up the lesson by sorting good and bad smells.  For Star of the Week, Alexander read us his favorite book, "Put Me in a Zoo."  He did a great job!  For P.E., Coach Angel had us play hockey. In the library, Mrs. Singh read us a book on manners and then we checked out some new books. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home!
