The Tr, Dr, Gr, and Pr Blends

We had a good Monday back in Room 2. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders and having Nutrition outside. Then we had our morning activities. We read "The Trolls Take a Trip" and brainstormed some "tr" words, along with some "dr, gr, and pr" words to go with our "R" blends of the week. At language arts rotations, students worked on "tr, dr, gr, and pr" phonics and sentences. My groups read Sam and Mat book #9 and looked at the parts of an insect. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we learned our new sight words, recited "Hot Cross Buns," and had math. We reviewed shapes before focusing on drawing and identifying hexagons.

After lunch, we continued with our theme of insects. We read "About Insects" and then used key words to fill in a few sentences about bees. Then we read "The Happy Bee" before completing a cut and paste on the different kinds of bees. Then we introduced Alexander as our Star of the Week. He shared his very cool poster and then took questions and comments from the class. We had P.E. on the big yard before ending the day with a popcorn party. We weren't able to have one on Friday because of the field trip so we had it today. We watched "The Magic School Bus: In the Hive" and munched on a cup of popcorn. Then we packed up, passed out homework, and lined up for home.

Don't forget to check over homework packets for the week!  A permission slip is included for our third field trip of the year. Also, remember to work on Animals Report & Diorama projects. They're due in two weeks, on Wednesday, May 13th!
