The Letter L

We had a busy day back in Room 2. We began Monday by collecting Friday Folders and having Nutrition. Then we updated our calendar and took care of our morning activities. We read "My 'L' Book" and brainstormed "L" words. At language arts rotations, students practiced "L" handwriting AND used crayons, licorice, and glue to make the tactile page "Licorice on 'L's on a Lollipop." My group took the Topic 5 math test and wrote about friends in our kindergarten journals. The other groups had secret centers.  After recess, we learned our new poem "Mary Had a Little Lamb," did some rhyming, and had math. We worked on counting numbers to 30.

After lunch, we discussed Super Star Sticks, a positive reward system we are using now. Students can earn Super Star Sticks with good effort and positive behavior. When they collect 20, they get a prize! We read the story "On the Go" and discussed kinds of transportation next. Students then picked one type of transportation to write a sentence and make a picture. Then we introduced Nathan as our Star of the Week. He shared his cool poster and took questions and comments from the class. We had a quick afternoon snack and recess on the kindergarten yard before ending the day with Art with Ms. Maria and Miss Karla. They had us wonk on a mystery holiday project and have free draw. Then we packed up, passed out homework folders, and lined up for home.

Don't forget to check over homework packets for the week. They include "Homework for Parents," a survey to help me prepare for our conferences next week. Please send it in by Friday with your child's homework. Cut off and keep the conference time reminder note. Also, we will be studying leaves this week. It would be helpful if students could collect a few leaves and bring them into class for some of our related activities. Thanks!  Let's have a great week!
