Geometric Shapes

We had another good day in Room 2. Our Thursday began with Nutrition and morning activities. The we read "My First Thanksgiving" and "N is for Newt." At language arts rotations, students worked on "N" phonics and sentences. We did a great job!  Almost half the class was able to write at least five sentences. Several wrote more than ten!  My groups read "I Like, We Like" and wrote a letter to Lila, our Star of the Week. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we recited "Little Nut Tree" and had math. We worked with a partner to make up stories about joining. Then we added those numbers to solve the problem.

After lunch, we shared Dashiell and Stella's Reflections projects, read "Thank You Thanksgiving," and had art. We discussed geometric shapes. Students learned that geometric shapes are the shapes with a name (i.e. square, circle, triangle), and the opposite of the free-form shapes we drew two weeks ago. Then we tried to create a geometric quilt design similar to the Navajo. They look nice!  For Star of the Week, Lila shared her favorite book, "Can I Play, Too?" and some family pictures.  At P.E., we used bouncy balls and jump ropes on the kindergarten yard. When we came in, we sang "A Turkey Named Burt" and read "A Plump and Perky Turkey." We also did an A-Z dot to dot picture that made a turkey. Then we packed up our things and lined up for home.

Don't forget to finish and check over homework packets for tomorrow!
