The Water Cycle and a Garden of Colors

A busy and fun day this Friday in Room 2. After collecting homework folders, we took care of our morning business. Then we read two books: "A Rainy Day" and "How Does it Rain?" At language arts rotations, we used what we learned from the stories to create a water cycle spinner.  Students had to cut holes to show the water falling as rain from the clouds and evaporating back up into the sky. They look neat! After snack and recess, we stayed outside to "erupt" my volcano from yesterday. We used vinegar, baking soda and red food coloring. The class was quite impressed. When we came in, we had math. We reviewed measurement before completing a weather graph.

After lunch, we read another one of Mia's books called "Cecil." For art, we continued our study of color. We looked at a Henri Matisse painting and his use of bright colors. Then we made our own "garden of colors" using oil pastels and watercolors. For Star of the Week, Mia brought in marshmallows to  estimate. There were 29 marshmallows. Quinn got it exactly!  Then we went our for a quick P.E. on the kindergarten yard. We ended our day with a popcorn party. We watched "The Magic School Bus: Blows its Top," which was about volcanoes, while we ate a small cup of popcorn.  Then we packed up Friday Folders, gave out prizes for earning 20 super star sticks and an all-green week, and lined up for home.

Have a great weekend!
