The Letter Y and Read Across America

A busy day back this Monday in Room 2.  We started by collecting Friday Folders and taking care of our morning business. Then we read the "X" and "Y" portions of "My X, Y, and Z Book" and came up with words that have the "Y" sound.  For language arts rotations, we practiced our "Y" handwriting (make sure the lowercase goes BELOW the line!) and completed the tactile page "Yarn on Ys on a Yo-Yo." My groups read "Can Nan?," labeled different bones in our skeletons, and wrote three sentences about bones. The other two groups finished their last secret center. After snack and recess, we recited our new poem "Yankee Doodle" and had math. We began Topic 12 on Measurement. We learned three ways to measure an object: by length, weight, and volume (or capacity).

After lunch, we read "The Cat in the Hat" to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday yesterday and Read Across America. Then we put together a sequencing page after talking about brushing our teeth and good oral hygiene. We will write a story to match the pictures tomorrow. Then we had Star of the Week. Luke shared his amazing poster and took questions from the class. We had P.E. on the kindergarten yard with hula hoops and balls next. When we came back in, we read "Green Eggs and Ham" and colored a Dr. Seuss page. Then we packed up, got our homework, and lined up for home!

Be sure to look over your child's homework packet. There is a note about our next field trip, with a permission slip attached. Let's have a great week!
