Optical Illusions and the Walk-a-Thon!

We had a very busy day in Room 2 on Friday. We started by collecting homework packets and taking care of our morning business. Then we read "The Snowy Day" by Ezra Jack Keats. At language arts rotations, students wrote a sentences telling what Peter did during the story. My groups read "It Looked Like Spilt Milk" and made our own cloud picture. We also read Sam and Mat books with a partner. The other groups had secret centers.  After snack and recess, we recited "Wee Willie Winkie" and had math. We sorted circle with a friend and put them in groups that had the same attributes.

After lunch, we had art and science. For art, we reviewed hot and cold colors. Students used red, orange and yellow OR blue, green, and purple oil pastels to make a large flower. They look neat!  For science, we read about the five senses. After discussing seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and tasting, we had a sight experiment. We made an optical illusion by coloring a picture of a fish and a picture of a bowl on the opposite side. Then we stapled the pictures to a pencil and spun them around. Our eyes were tricked into thinking the fish was in the water!  The class enjoyed that. For Star of the Week, Penelope had us estimate toy ponies. There were 26. Sua guessed it exactly! At 1:30, we went out to the Walk-a-Thon. Our class walked around the track, played freeze dance, and did cup stacking. It was fun! Then we had an all school assembly where they had the raffle for Walk-a-Thon prizes. When it was over, we raced back to class, packed up, and handed out prizes and green certificates for the week.  Then we lined up for home.

Have a great weekend!
