Colorful Collages and John's Birthday

We had a busy, but fun day in Room 2 this Friday. We started by collecting homework and taking care of morning business. Mr. A read a book on floods while I got our morning activity set. At language arts rotations, we traced our Open House writing and decorated it with foam shapes. They look really good!  Be sure to check them out on Thursday. My groups started working on "My Sense Book." We wrote a sentence a made a picture for seeing and hearing today. We will continue to work on it as we learn about the five senses in science. The other groups had secret centers. After snack and recess, we recited "Come to the Window" and had a science activity that we didn't have time for yesterday. Students cut out and matched objects that you see or hear.

After lunch, we read a book on blizzards and had art.  Our topic was Identifying Colors. We made a colorful collage using construction paper. Some students were very creative in their projects. It was a bit of a challenge to find different colored paper and create related objects, but I think it was still fun for everyone. As we finished cleaning up, we got a surprise: a fire alarm. We had to quickly head out to the big yard for the drill, as well as some announcements from Dr. Oh. When we got back, we had Star of the Week. Quinn had us estimate Lego pieces. There were 69 pieces. Ethan made the best guess of 75. We had a short P.E. because at 2:00, we celebrated John's birthday. His mom brought cupcakes, yogurt snacks, and juice for the class which we enjoyed after singing "Happy Birthday" to John. When we finished we packed up our Friday Folders, passed our prizes for super star sticks, and green certificates. John and his mom generously passed out goody bags as we headed for home.  Have a great weekend!

Remember that we do NOT have school on Monday, in honor of the Cesar Chavez holiday. Also, note that Open House is on Thursday, April 3rd.  See you on Tuesday!
