Teeth, Primary Colors, and Popcorn

We had a fun and busy day this Friday in Room 2!  We started by collecting homework and taking care of our morning business. Then we read "Hooray for Teeth!" and went over what we learned about teeth. At language arts rotations, students made a picture labeling the parts of a tooth (enamel, dentin, and pulp). They also counted the number of primary teeth in their mouths. At my table, groups wrote in their journals about their favorite shape. Other groups had secret centers. After snack and recess, we went over healthy brushing habits and made a "toothbrush" with a brushing schedule on it. (Hopefully, it made it home in your child's backpack.) Students also got a real toothbrush to take home!

After lunch, we read a book on going to the dentist. For art, we discussed the primary colors: red, yellow, and blue. We knew from our color wheel last week that by mixing these primary colors, you make the secondary colors: orange, green, and purple. So our project today was to use what we know to make a picture overlapping primary colored shapes using construction paper. We then put the correct secondary color shape in the appropriate area. They look great!  For Star of the Week, Luke had us estimate Legos. There were 71 Legos. Callum made the best guess of 66. We went out for P.E. on th kindergarten next. To end the day, we earned a popcorn party for good behavior! We watched "Green Eggs & Ham and Other Stories" and had a cup of popcorn. Then we packed up our Friday Folders (and toothbrushes), passed out awards and green certificates, and lined up for home.  Have a great weekend!

  1. All the oral education must be working - we were out late (9pm!) on friday night and the girls fell asleep in the car, so we carried them to bed. Abbie woke up about 3am, I think, crying because she wanted to get up and brush her teeth!
