Reading Buddies!

Tuesday was a short, but productive day. We started off, as always, with morning business and our language arts rotations. Students worked on a "short e" cut and paste phonics page, went to secret centers, and practiced reading "I Am Picking Apples" and "e" handwriting with me. Then we cleaned up, had snack, and went to recess. We went to see Mr. Riko in the Tech Lab following recess. There we worked on typing our name, using stamps, and "painting" at abcya.com.

After lunch, we read a story related to our new Treasures theme: Friends called "What Do You Like?" We also did some oral blending, which is when you blend letter sounds to make a word. In math, we worked on writing and building the numbers 6 and 7. We ended the day with some visitors.  Mr. Bassett's fourth grade class will be our reading buddies for the remainder of the year. We met them and tried to pair up students with a complementary buddy. Mr. Bassett and I feel that the students benefit from a role model who can help guide and help them become better readers.  We plan on meeting every Tuesday afternoon for the rest of the schoolyear. I think we're off to a great start!
