Our Return to the Library

Our class started our Wednesday with language arts rotations. We reinforced our phonics skills with a Ferris Wheel "F" cut and paste. Students were again encouraged to write "f" words on the back when they finished. The goal is to improve handwriting, better recognize letters and words, and improve work habits. At my table, we read "Quick as a Cricket" and came up with similies to describe ourselves. Some examples from today were: "I'm as cute a a bunny" and "I'm as fast as a cheetah." Most students sounded out their third sentence adjective and read their book to me when done. We also has secret centers. After snack and recess, we made a return visit to the library.  We has gone once earlier in the year, but the afternoon librarian Mrs. Patty got a new job assignment soon after. So we got a new time (Wednesdays at 10:15) and began today. Mrs. Denson introduced herself and read "More Spaghetti, I Say" by Rita Golden Gelman and then let students look at books.

After lunch, we worked on problem solving in math. We looked for a pattern and tried to extend them, first with unifix cubes and then by drawing.  In art, we discussed moving lines. We looked at a picture of students playing and tried to recreate our own scene with moving lines using oil pastels and what we learned. We had Coach Angel for P.E. and played with pillow paddles. He had us hit a ball back and forth around a cone and then into a goal.  To end the day, we finished up our art projects and had choose time.
