Art with Ms. Maria

Since we spent most of the week focusing on the "short e" sound, I thought we'd spend our Friday looking at the "long e" sound, as in eel. Students completed a cut and paste phonics page at their independent tables while I worked with children in our kindergarten journals. We wrote about apples. After snack and recess, we worked on building and counting the number 10 in math.

After lunch, students got their first lesson with Ms. Maria (and Miss Karla). They discussed the artist Jackson Pollock and his influential painting "Blue Poles.". After making sure we had our smocks on, everyone got a chance to dribble/splatter/throw paint onto a divided canvas. It was a bit messy, but fun! We also spent some time free drawing with markers while we waited for our turn. After art, we had recess on the yard and then played "Duck, Duck, Goose" in Dermody Court. We still had some time left in the day, so we read "Clifford's Manners" and colored a picture of the big red dog with a partner.  Then we packed up, got our Friday Folders and green certificates, and headed out the door. Have a great weekend!
