Prisms

Another busy day today in room 2!  We started the day by reading "Copycats" and finding and listing words that start with the letter "C." We broke into small groups for rotations after that, completing a "C" cut and paste phonics page, reading "At School" and working on"C" handwriting with Mr. Ricker, and going to our new secret centers. We reviewed our poem of the week, "Hickory, Dickory, Dock" after snack and recess,  and practiced letter recognition as well. For math, we recognized and wrote zeroes before using blocks to quiz a partner on their counting skills.

After lunch, things got even more fun. We used prisms in science!  Since we've been talking about colors, it seemed like a good idea to show the class where those rainbow colors come from. We took the prisms outside on the kindergarten yard in groups of three to see what light would do to them. The students enjoyed holding them up and seeing the rainbow land on the ground, wall, or other object. When we went inside, we recreated that visual using construction paper and oil pastels. We ended the day playing with a big parachute at P.E. with Coach Angel, and getting turned away from the library. Apparently, our librarian from last week, Ms. Patty, has moved to a new school and we haven't gotten a replacement yet. Hopefully that will be remedied next week. Have a great day off tomorrow! Don't forget to finish homework packets for Friday!
