Something New

We tried something new this Monday in Room 203.  We're trying to add some movement and independence to our days as we enter our second trimester, so we had small group rotations today. Each group will have an area to move and work: one group with me, one group at workshop, two groups working independently. It was a little tricky on the first day, but we're going to keep trying. The advantage is that students become more responsible, we have a little more freedom, and I get to work more closely with smaller groups. Independent groups worked on making tactile names using glue and tissue paper. My groups made their t-shirt drawing and worked on LexiaCore5 games. Workshop groups got to explore activities around the room.  When we were done, we had Reader's Workshop. We worked on reading with a partner and then read "D is for Drum" together.  After Road to Reading,  we had snack and recess. To finish our morning, we made Tom Turkey art by coloring and following directions.

After lunch, we read "Look at the Picture," sang "A Turkey Named Burt," and had another small group rotation, which went better. For math, we reviewed and identified more solid shapes. We're really focusing on the cone, sphere, cube, and cylinder, so practice them at home!  Then we cleaned up and went to Spanish and P.E. Sra. Colmenero had the class review colors with the feathers of a turkey in Spanish. Mr. Simatic had the class play hockey in P.E. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home. Let's make it a great week!

It's a short week, so there's no homework packet this week. I have included new take home books, our class t-shirt forms, and  Culture Day instructions. Be sure to work on them over the Thanksgiving Break!
