Field Trip to the Oak Park Fire Station

We had a fun Friday in Room 203. We began the day by writing letters to Amira, our Star of the Week, after she told us two funny jokes. When we finished, we read a book on being a firefighter before having snack and a bathroom break. After our chaperones arrived, we got together to go over the rules on our field trip. We noticed that it was beginning to snow, which made for an added bonus. Then we walked all the way to the Oak Park Fire Station on Euclid Avenue. We arrived and met Firefighter Tim, who showed us around. He showed us the other firefighters that work there, he showed us some of the gear they wear, he showed us the ambulance and fire engine, and he showed us some of the hoses and other equipment they use. It was neat!  Firefighter Tim also reminded us not to hide during a fire and not to be scared of a firefighter in his gear. Then we took some pictures and walked back to Beye. It was just about time for lunch, so we finally got to play in some of that snow.

After lunch, we recited "Diddle, Diddle, Dumpling," reviewed our sight words, and read "Firefighters." We made pictures for the Oak Park firefighters. After some workshop, we looked at our leaves from yesterday. We used paint to make leaf prints. They look nice!  After a scramble to clean up, we ended the day in P.E. and Music. Then we packed up Friday Folders and made sure that everyone had their firefighter hat and sticker before we lined up for home.

We'd like to thank our awesome parent chaperones for helping out and keeping us safe on the field trip: Ben P's dad, Emma's mom, Henry's mom, Nora's mom, Paul's dad, and Wai Zin's mom.  Thank you! Have a great weekend!
