Winter Holidays

We had a nice Monday back in Room 203. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders (and report cards envelopes), as well as by taking care of our morning activities. After HWT and Road to Reading, we had Writer's Workshop. We talked about rereading our stories to make sure they have everything we want in them. Then we reread last week's stories and added to them. After snack and indoor recess, we had Art. Ms. Sundquist had the class continue their study of lines and drawing.

After lunch, we read a story and talked about the Winter holidays. We will study and have activities related to Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa both this week and next. We will also share our homework from this week to help our study!  We made patterned candy canes using glue and paper squares as a quick project. At Music, Mrs. Hansen had the class learn about the Russian Nutcracker and used a parachute to rhythmically move with the music. It looked fun!  Back in Room 203, we learned about solid shapes. We are focusing on the cube, sphere, cylinder, and cone. Please review them at home! I also introduced some trickier solid shapes like the pyramid and rectangular prism. We looked at these shapes and tried to find objects in the room that have that solid shape. In the Computer Lab, we worked on LexiaCore5 skills. Keep working at home!  Many students are really progressing!  If you need the login information, let me know. Then we packed up, passed out homework, and lined up for home.

Be sure to look at homework for the week. It's not a packet, but a special project. I'm asking each student to write and illustrate (either with a picture or photograph) about a winter family tradition. It could be related to a holiday, event, meal, activity, trip, or something else. What does your family do around this time every year? Think about it and help your child neatly write and illustrate it. We will share them Friday and all next week. You may also send in an artifact (not one that is breakable or too important to lose, please) with your child to share. See me if you have any questions or concerns!
