The 5 Food Groups

We had a fun Thursday in Room 203. We began the day with our morning activities and HWT. Next, we read "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!" and went to the Computer Lab to work on LexiaCore5 skills and games. When we returned to the room, we had Writer's Workshop. We added to our picture stories from yesterday by adding words, sentences, and speech bubbles. We noticed that the Pigeon book had a lot of good examples of speech bubbles, too! After snack and a chilly recess, we talked about the five food groups: fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, and dairy. We came up with examples of each. During ELA Workshop, students created their own plate of healthy food that included something from each of the five food groups. When they visited me, they sounded out and wrote the names of the food they picked from each group. Some were challenging, but we are really trying! We also visited a secret center.

After lunch, we recited "Mary Had a Little Lamb," our five sight words of the week, and read "Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late!" At Music, the class heard "The Nutcracker Suite" by Duke Ellington. For math, we reviewed flat shapes and focused on hexagons. We then found and described them. At Spanish, Sra Colmenero worked on directional words again. To end the day, we started Friday's art lesson by making lines we can touch using glue. Hopefully they will dry overnight and we can finish the project tomorrow afternoon.  Then we cleaned up, packed up, counted super star sticks, and lined up for home.

Don't forget that we have a walking field trip tomorrow, so dress warm! Also, be sure to finish and check over homework packets and turn in any December book orders tomorrow.
