"From Rag to Rap"

We had a fun Friday in Room 203. We began the day by collecting homework and taking care of our morning activities. After some HWT, we went to the auditorium for an assembly called "From Rag to Rap." Performers went through the history of popular music in America "from rag to rap." The class got to hear songs from Irving Berlin to Benny Goodman, from  Elvis to Michael Jackson, and from MC Hammer to OutKast and Silento. The class had a lot of fun clapping and dancing along with the music. When we were done, we went straight to Spanish. Sra. Colmenero taught us more spatial and directional words to go with the birds we made. In P.E., Mr. Simatic had the class play more hockey games. When we got back to the room, we had a quick snack and had science. We reviewed what we know about trees, labeled their parts and looked at the shape of trees. We noticed that they aren't all the same. Then we read "The Tree" and tried to find the shapes of different trees by putting together tree puzzles.

After lunch, we recited "Georgie Porgie" and had math. We practiced counting fluency on our fingers and with the rekenrek. We also put together cubes and counted to ten with a partner. We then finished Module One by counting and finding more and less. After an afternoon recess, we ended the day with art. We made self portraits to decorate the classroom by using pencil, crayon, and watercolors. They look great. Then we cleaned up, packed up Friday Folders, passed out prizes for twenty super star sticks, and lined up for home. Have a fantastic weekend!
