Double Science

We had a busy Wednesday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and our morning activities. Then we read "The Yak Who Yelled Yuck" and came up with more "Y" words. At language arts rotations, students worked on "Y" phonics and sentences. My groups read "Rod Can See It" and wrote in our journals about what we've learned this year in kindergarten. The other groups had secret centers. After recess on the big yard, we had math. We worked on finding objects that belong and don't belong. Then students worked with a partner to use logical reasoning to identify things that didn't belong in a picture.

After lunch, we reviewed sight words, recited "Yankee Doodle," and had double science. First, we read "Roots" and learned why roots are so important to a plant. Then we started an experiment to see how roots work. We put a piece of celery into a cup of water with food coloring. Tomorrow we will see what happened. Hopefully, we should notice that the water went up against gravity to the top of the stalk.  Our second science experiment came next. We took several objects in water to see if the would sink or float. From this, we learned what objects or materials have buoyancy. It was a little messy, but fun!  At P.E., Coach Angel had the class play a game of soccer, which made many students overjoyed. We ended the day in the library, where Mrs. Singh read us two books. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, wished Zuri a happy birthday, and lined up for home.

Remember that tomorrow is Spring Picture Day. Students who need their picture taken for the yearbook and those with order forms will get their photograph tomorrow at school.
