More With Z and an Optical Illusion

We had a fun Wednesday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and our morning activities. Then we read "Zack the Lazy Zebra" and came up with more "Z" words. At language arts rotations, students worked on "Z" phonics and sentences. My groups took the chapter 9 math test and wrote in our kindergarten journals about Spring Break. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we had math. We looked at objects that are above or below something else.

After lunch, we reviewed our sight words, recited "This Little Piggy," and sang "Itsy Bitsy Spider." We also started an art project that we will finish tomorrow. We drew soil and grass using crayons. Then we fingerpainted ladybug shapes on the blades of grass. Tomorrow we will finish the background and add detail to the ladybugs. For science, we read about the five senses. We learned that the five senses are seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching. We will conduct an experiment on each one. Today, we had a seeing experiment. We tried to trick our eyes with an optical illusion. We colored a picture of a fish and a fish bowl, then put them on opposite sides attached to a pencil. When we spun the pencil, our eyes thought the fish was in the bowl!  That was fun!  For P.E., Coach Angel had the class play "Whiffle Me This, Whiffle Me That" and "Pole Over." Each involved knocking over objects with  a ball. Next, Mrs. Singh read us a story and then told us the rules for looking at books in the library. We will use placemarker boards and check out books in the next couple of weeks. Then we put up our chairs, packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home.
