Extra Tech Lab Time

We had a nice Tuesday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and our morning activities. Then we read "Grow, Tree, Grow!" and "Y is for Yak" before coming up with some more "y" words. At language arts rotations, students worked on "Y" phonics and sentences. My groups read "Rod Can See It" and wrote in our kindergarten journals about things that we have learned this year. The other groups had secret centers.  After recess on the big yard, we went to the Tech Lab. Ms. Castro had the class work on keyboarding and making capital letters, either with the "shift" key or the "caps lock" key. When we got back to Room 2, we reviewed sight words, recited "Yankee Doodle," and worked on sounding out words with the /k/ or /ck/ sound.

After lunch, we went back to the Tech Lab. I arranged for some extra time with Ms. Castro to work on our Lexia Core 5 Reading activities on the computer. I will be handing out a letter with the website, along with your child's username and password, so that you can work on these activities at home. They will help your child improve their reading skills and adjust activities according to their level of understanding. We're piloting the program and our initial results have all been positive. Mr. Bassett's class had to cancel Reading Buddies (they're practicing a play), so we read with a friend in class. Then we had Star of the Week. Lois shared some toys with the class. She had a pink monkey, several ShopKins, a Princess Aurora doll, and a "Frozen" camera that shows pictures from the movie. The class liked them a lot!  Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home.
