Yum or Yuck: The Taste Experiment

We had a tasty day this Thursday in Room 2. We began with our morning business. Then we read "Curious George and the Car Wash" since Steve likes Curious George. At language arts rotations, we wrote letters to Steve, our Star  of the Week. My groups read "Are Caps Hats?" and wrote about plants in our kindergarten journals. The other groups started our new secret centers. After snack and recess, we recited "Rock-a-bye Baby," did some rhyming, and had math. We worked on drawing solid shapes again today. It seemed a little easier the second time making a sphere, cube, cone, cylinder, pyramid, and rectangular prism.

After lunch, we read our Mother's Day poem and had mixing with Mr. Duffy's class. My group wrote sentences about the sequencing activity we did yesterday on the life cycle of a plant. Next, Stave shared some wonderful family pictures for Star of the Week. Then we had P.E. on the big yard. To end the day, we had science. We reviewed the five senses (seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting. touching) and read a book on taste. We learned that we taste with the taste buds on our tongues. We also found out that each part of the tongue senses a different taste. Then we had a taste experiment. It was called "Yum or Yuck." We tried five different foods with different flavors and decided if we liked it (Yum!) or didn't like it (Yuck!). We tasted pumpkin seeds (salty), an apple (sweet), chocolate (bittersweet), a lemon (sour), and a Hot Cheeto (spicy). Surprisingly, most students said yum to all of the foods, even the sour lemon and spicy Hot Cheeto. Then we cleaned up, packed up, and lined up for home.

Don't forget that homework packets are due tomorrow. Please finish and check over your work. Also, Spring Picture Day is tomorrow. Send in the order form with your child if  you're interested.
