The Carrot Seed

We had a short, but very enthusiastic Friday in Room 2. After collecting homework folders and taking care of morning business, we read the first two chapters of "The Easter Egg Disaster." We have read and written about the book "The Carrot Seed" the last couple of days, so today we decided to do a little more. At language arts rotations, students sewed a "carrot" and added a stem. Then they attached the written summary to make a neat looking project!  My tables read "Tap, Tap, Tap!" and wrote in their kindergarten journals about Spring Break.  After snack and recess, we finished "The Easter Egg Disaster" and made an Easter cartoon. Students wrote captions for a six panel cartoon that included the Easter Bunny, some paint, and a very large egg. They were silly and fun!

After lunch, we had Star of the Week. Samara had the class estimate heart jewels. There were 38 jewels. Ava made the best guess of 36. Then we watched "The Magic School Bus: Makes a Stink," which was about smell and the five senses.  Because it was an early dismissal day, we missed out on the lunch recess, but we figured the cool room was a better choice than a busy play yard. To end the day, we packed up our Friday Folders and gave out prizes and green certificates for good behavior. The class was looking forward to our week-long vacation all day. It sounds like many of you have some exciting plans. Please have a happy and healthy Spring Break!
