R Blends, Plant Needs, and Abbie's Birthday

We're back after a (hopefully) enjoyable Spring Break in Room 2. We started our Monday by collecting Friday Folders and taking care of morning business. We read the book "Leaves" and brainstormed some words that begin with "R blends." Since we've gone through the entire alphabet and the four digraphs, we will spend the remainder of the year on blends. This week will look at "br, cr, and fr." At language arts rotations, students filled in the blank to match blends to pictures, then rewrote the words. Plus, students created sentences using those "br, cr, and fr" words. My tables wrote about their Spring Break in our kindergarten journals. The other groups had secret centers. After snack and recess, we learned our new poem "Rock-a-bye Baby" and had math. We talked about what makes a triangle, found triangles in the room, drew triangles, and identified triangles amongst other shapes.

After lunch, we read "From Acorn to Oak Tree" and discussed plant needs. Then we completed a cut and paste page that showed the four plant needs: air, soil, sun, and water. For Star of the Week, we introduced Steve and shared his very nice poster. Then he took questions from the class. We had P.E. on the big yard next. When we got back, we did the first step in a two-part art project and celebrated Abbie's birthday. Her mom (and little sister) brought muffins and juice to enjoy. She also had goody bas for everyone! Then we packed up, got our homework, and lined up for home.

Don't forget to check through the homework packet for the week. There is a note and permission slip about out third field trip, plus another note about Spring Picture Day. See me if you have any questions.
