The Letter U

We had a good Monday back in Room 203. We spent our morning sharing about our weekend, working on HWT, and having Reader's Workshop. It included some new activities. We also used crayons, glue, and utensils to make the tactile page "Utensils on 'U's on an Umbrella." It's assessment week in Road to Reading, so most groups focused on testing for reading growth. After snack and recess, we read "My 'U' Book," brainstormed some "U" words, and practiced writing the letter "U."

After lunch, we learned our new sight words (went, mother, your, know, over), recited our new poem ("Little Boy Blue"), read "Old Bear," and sang "Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear" together. We also had math. We tried a new approach by introducing our topic, working together, and then going to math workshop. Hopefully this new routine will allow us more movement, include more math activities, and allow for individual help as needed. We also introduced Jamari as our Star of the Week. He shared his poster and took some questions from the class. We ended the day learning about weather in Spanish and playing some fun games in P.E. Then we passed out homework and packed up for home.

Be sure to check over homework packets for the week. Turn in Six Flags forms ASAP, and check out the new March Minute Madness reading challenge at Beye. Finally, don't forget to turn in permission slips for our field trip by March 6. Let's have a great week!
