The Letter T and a Power Outage
We had an interesting Tuesday back in Room 203. We started our day finding our new seats, sharing about our weekend, working on HWT, reading "My Teacher for President," and having Reading Buddies. We also read "My 'T' Book," brainstormed "T" words, and used crayons, glue, and toothpicks to make the tactile page "Toothpicks on 'T's on a Tomato." After Road to Reading, we had snack and indoor recess because of the rain. Then we practiced good "T" handwriting and sentences.
After lunch, we visited the library. Mr. Withers read us a story and we checked out new books for the week. When we returned, we learned our new sight words (together, has, yes, did, big), recited our new poem ("Polly Put the Kettle On"), and read "Pennies." I made a switch in our math to tie in with Presidents' Day, so we will be looking at coins and money all week. Today we looked at pennies. We found out that a penny is made up of copper and zinc, has President Abraham Lincoln on the front, the Lincoln Memorial on back, and is worth one cent. Then we colored a penny and looked at real penny to help us identify other pennies. When we finished, we started looking at a new Time for Kids on President Abraham Lincoln, but were interrupted by a power outage. It was a little strange, but we dealt with it the best we could. We still went to Music and Spanish, but had to make some changes in our lessons. When we got back, we packed up, reviewed homework and lined up for home.
Be sure to check over homework packets. Our field trip permission slips for SciTech are included. It's also a short week, so manage your time well. Let's have a great week!
