The Letter R

We had a busy Monday back in Room 203. We began our morning with HWT, Reader's Workshop, and sharing about our weekend. We also introduced the letter R as our letter of the week. We used crayons, glue, and raisins to make the tactile page "Raisins on 'R's on a Rainbow" together. It's assessment week in Road to Reading, so we split into groups for that before having indoor snack and recess. We tried playing "Heads Up, Seven-Up" for the first time since we were inside. We may play more if it stays cold this week. After recess, we read "My 'R' Book" and brainstormed words that begin with "R." We also practiced some "R" handwriting.

After lunch, we reviewed our new sight words (see, she, come, me, my) and recited our new poem ("Jack and Jill"). We also read "Penguin in Love" for read aloud. Next, we used pastels to outline and color in our Space creatures from Friday and had math. We worked on finding more. We rolled dice with a partner to compare numbers to see which was more. We also introduced Evan as our Star of the Week. He shared his cool poster and took questions from the class. We ended the day in Spanish and P.E. Then we packed up, reviewed our new homework packet, and lined up for home.

Be sure to look at homework for the week. It includes a Six Flags Read to Succeed Reading Log. If your child can read 360 minutes by February 26, they can earn a free ticket to Six Flags. Look at the parent letter for rules and restrictions. Let's have a great conference week!
