Trees, Volume, and the Return of the Beye Belt

We had a fun Friday in Room 203. We began the day by collecting homework and taking care of our morning activities. Mr. Ali also stopped by to drop off the Beye Belt for meeting our class goal last week. (We also met it for this week. Way toy go 203!) After reading a Valentine's Day counting book, HWT, and Road to Reading, we worked on a card for Tuesday. We had a substitute at Spanish, but we still worked on an activity related to "frutas." At P.E., we got to play more basketball with Mr. Simatic. We followed that up with Science. We reviewed what we know about trees and leaves before discussing how they change through the seasons. Then we made a picture showing that change using crayons and paint.

After lunch, we reviewed sight words, recited "Jack Be Nimble," and had math. We worked on the concept of volume, or capacity. Students got a chance to measure volume using beans and differently shaped cups and containers. We were trying to determine which held more, which held less, and which held the same amount. After sharing our last 100 Day Book, we had Star of the Week. Billie told a funny joke before we read the letters we wrote to her yesterday. Next we had an outdoor recess since we don't get a morning one on Fridays. When we returned, we finished up our Valentine's Day gifts. Then we packed up Friday Folders, had some free time, passed out prizes for twenty super star sticks, and then lined up for home. Have a great weekend!

Looking ahead, don't forget that Valentine's Day is next Tuesday. We also have 11:00 A.M. dismissals next Thursday and Friday for Parent/Teacher conferences.
