The Letter R

We had a nice Monday in Room 203. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders and taking care of our morning activities, including sorting lunches, the Pledge and BeyeLaws, updating our calendar,  counting the days in school, and our morning exercises. Then we read "My 'R' Book" and brainstormed words that begin with the letter "R." Next we used crayons, glue, and raisins to make the tactile page "Raisins on 'R's on a Rainbow." After Road to Reading, we worked on forming neat and correct "R"s and writing "R" sentences. After snack and recess, we had Art. Ms. Sundquist had the class mold pinch pots using clay. They will put them in the kiln and glaze them in two weeks.

After lunch, we learned our new sight words of the week, recited our new poem ("Jack and Jill), and practiced some phonics skills. In Music, we learned more about our composer of the month with Mrs. Hansen. When we returned, we had math. After some fluency practice, students measured volume of different objects. We counted how many scoops of beans it took to fill cups, bowls, pans, and more. It was a little messy, but fun!  Our Star of the Week was absent, so we will hopefully will learn about Charlotte tomorrow. I read the book "Sweet Hearts" instead. We ended the day in the Computer Lab. The class continued their work on LexiaCore5 games. Then we passed out homework, packed up, and lined up for home.

Be sure to check over homework for the week. Our Valentine's Day party is tomorrow. If you bring cards or treats, please bring enough for all 17 students. There will be a Book Fair at Beye in the Commons this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. And remember that Thursday and Friday are Parent/Teacher conference days with 11:00 A.M. dismissal times. Be sure to make arrangements for your child. Lets's have a great week!
