Measuring with a Balance Scale

We had a pretty good Wednesday in Room 203. We began the day with our morning activities. Then we read "Emily's Valentine Party" and started our "Valentine Guy or Valentine Girl" project. we will probably finish it on Friday. After Road to Reading, we read a story in our Big Book of Exploration called "Is This Jobs For You?" The class answered questions by looking in the story and finding the author's purpose. We did a nice job!  After snack and recess, we read "Leaves" and had ELA Workshop. Students found "P" words and pictures independently, while my groups drew and wrote about leaves. We also visited a secret center.

After lunch, we reviewed sight words, recited "Little Bo-Peep," and had math. We continued our topic of measurement by measuring weight. We tried to weigh two objects to see which was lighter and which was heavier. We worked in table groups to find objects to weigh and used a balance scale to help. It made things much easier! For Star of the Week, Ascencion shared a favorite book. She read part of a chapter from "The Secret of the Old Clock," a Nancy Drew mystery. She did a great job!  We ended the day with Second Step. Mrs. Z and I led a lesson on handling waiting. After we packed up and reviewed homework, we handed out certificates to students that had an all-green January. Keep it up!
