The Water Cycle

We had a good Wednesday in Room 2.  We began the day with Nutrition and our morning activities. Then we read "Umbrellabird's Umbrella" and came up with more "short u" words. At language arts rotations, students worked on reading and matching "short u" words and pictures. My groups read the first two "Sam and Mat" books and tried to write the numbers to 100. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we recited "Little Boy Blue" and had math. We made a graph by counting objects and coloring in the correct number. We did well!

After lunch, we read "How Does it Rain?" and had science. We used the book to talk about the water cycle. Students learned that water from lakes, rivers, and puddles gets heated by the sun, turns into water vapor and evaporates in the air. When enough water vapor connects, a cloud is formed. Then the water returns to the ground when it rains. We made a spinning paper model to illustrate this information. They look cool!  For Star of the Week, Jacob brought in his favorite book: "The Berenstain Bears Big Race." The class liked how the boy bear kept trying and ended up winning the race. We had P.E. with Coach Angel next. He had the class try a new game I'll call "Volleyball Buckets," where students tried to score points by throwing a gator ball over a volleyball net into a big bucket. It looked fun!  To end the day, we went to the library. Mrs. Singh read the class "Gregory's Shadow."  Then we packed up, reviewed homework, played a quick game of Mr. Ricker Says," and lined up for home.
