More with W and Neighborhood

We had a busy Wednesday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition outside. When we came in, we updated the calendar with Mr. A because Mr. Ricker was making an announcement over the school intercom with the help of some kindergartners.  It's Black History Month and each grade level will discuss an important and influential African-American. Our grade went first. Enerel from Room 10, Euna from Room 8, Lucian from Room 1, Joanna from Room 9, and Sophia from Room 2 read a sentence about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. They did a great job!  When we got back, we read "Worms Wagon" and came up with more "W" words. At language arts rotation, students worked on "W" words and sentences. My groups read Sam and Mat book 4 and talked about our Treasure theme of neighborhood. The other groups had secret centers.  After recess, we recited "Humpty Dumpty" and had math. We learned how to make 11, 12, and 13 using counters and adding to a group of ten.

After lunch, we corrected some sentences together and sang the song "Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes." Then we read "A Picture Book of George Washington Carver." We learned a lot about his life and accomplishments. Then we colored in a picture of Mr. Carver. For Star of the Week, We reviewed what we know about Ethan. Then he shared some neat toys: a smurf, some Lego Chima cards, and some Lego figures. They were cool!  Then we read Ethan's favorite book, "There's a Wocket in My Pocket."  Coach Angel had a fun game for us at P.E. We used scooters, gator balls, and a big bucket to play "Angry Birds." Students scooted down an aisle to face the big bucket, then pulled back on a springy cord to shoot the ball into the goal. It was fun!  We finished the day in the library where Mrs. Singh read us three books. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home!
