More With V and Money

We had another fast Tuesday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and our morning activities.
Then we read "Vera Viper's Valentine" and came up with some more "V" words. At language arts rotations, students worked on "V" phonics and sentences. My groups took the Topic 9 math test and read "Sam and Mat" book 3. The other groups started our new secret centers. They include: Tracing heart shapes with colored chalk at the Art Center, Starfall and Planet Bravo games at the Computer Center, "All Together Now" by Anita Jeram at the Listening Center, matching coins at the Math Center, and Legos and Lincoln Logs at the Play Center.  After recess, we had Tech Lab. Mr. Scott had the class listen to story problems and use Wixie to illustrate them. Back in Room 2, we recited "There Was a Crooked Man," did some rhyming, practiced vowel sounds, sounded out CVC words, and reviewed our weekly sight words.

After lunch, we read Jacob's book and had math. We read a book on nickels and discussed its value, as well as what is on the front and back of a nickel. Students then identified nickels and cut and pasted pictures to match.  For Star of the Week, Hudson shared some toys. He had his favorite teddy bear, a brachiosaurus toy, his baseball glove, and a Candyland game. The class liked them a lot!  To end the day, we had Playing Buddies. Because of the beautiful weather, Mr. Bassett suggested having an outdoor recess with our Reading Buddies from Room 19. It was a good idea!  So we played with our fourth and fifth grade friends on the big yard. Then we put up our chairs, packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home.
