Color Collages

We had a busy Thursday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and morning activities. Then we read "My Skin and Bones" and "X is for Xig-Xag." At language arts rotations, students worked on some mixed phonics and writing sentences. My groups read "Sit" and wrote a friendly letter to Dylan, our Star of the Week. The other groups had their first secret center of this rotation. They include: Painting a cloud at the Art Center, games at Starfall.com and PlanetBravo.com at the Computer Center, addition practice at the Math Center, Magni-Tiles and shapes at the Play Center, and writing sentences with bones and teeth words at the Writing Center. After recess, we practiced our sight words, recited "Baa, Baa, Black Sheep," and had math. We worked on creating sets of numbers to 19 using counters.

After lunch, we edited two sentences together and had art. We continued our topic of color by identifying colors and making a color collage. Students tried to put similar objects together using different colored paper. Student ideas included aliens, cookies, shapes, letters, and more. They came out great!  For Star of the Week, Dylan shared some nice family pictures. Then we learned a little about Dr. Maulana Karenga, the man who created Kwanzaa, and colored in a picture. We ended the day with P.E. on the kindergarten yard. Then we packed up and played a little "Mr. Ricker Says" before lining up for home.

Don't forget to finish up and check over homework tonight!
