The Letter U

We had a fast Tuesday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and our morning activities. Then we read "My 'U' Book" and brainstormed some "Short U" words. There aren't a lot of words that start with the "short u" sound, so I encourage students to include words in their work that have that "short u" sound in them, such as sun or bug.  At language arts rotations, students worked on correct "U" letter formation and using crayons, glue, and utensils to make the tactile page "Utensils on 'U's on an Umbrella." My groups took the Topic 8 math test and wrote what they would do with $100.  The other groups had secret centers.  After recess, we went to the Tech Lab. Mr. Scott had the class play math games that make ten. It ties in perfectly with what we're doing in class.  When we got back to the room, we recited "Little Boy Blue," did some rhyming, reviewed our sight words, broke down word sounds, and practiced the vowel sounds by singing "Apples and Bananas."

After lunch, we read "Tackylocks and the Three Bears" and had math. We worked on writing number sentences for 10. For Star of the Week, Jacob shared some cool toys. He had Raphael from TMNT, the game Trouble, plus large Joker and Batman action figures. To end the day, we had Reading Buddies. It was nice to see our friends from Room 19 and look at books outside. Then we put up chairs, packed up, and lined up for home!
