The Letter O

Welcome back!  We had a busy first day back in Room 2. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders and having Nutrition. Then we read "My 'O' Book" and brainstormed words that have the "short o" sound, as in octopus or on. At language arts rotations, students worked on "O" handwriting and using crayons, glue, and cereal to make  the tactile "Cheerios on 'O's on an Octopus." My groups wrote about Native Americans in our kindergarten journals and started phonics testing. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we learned our new poem "Old Woman in a Shoe" and had math. We worked on using the plus sign when adding.

After lunch, we started learning two of our holiday songs. Then we discussed our new Treasures theme of "Food" and read "Annie the Apple Farmer." We discussed food, where it comes from, and why we need it. Then we wrote a sentence telling our favorite food. After some free time, we introduced Leland as our new Star of the Week. She shared her great poster and took questions and comments from the class. At P.E., we used jump ropes and frisbees on the big yard. When we got back, we had art with Ms. Maria and Miss Karla. We worked on holiday palm tree art. Then we passed out homework packets and lined up for home.

Be sure to check over the homework for the week. Make up picture day is Thursday, and next week we will have a Book Fair in the library. See the attached flyer for more information.
