Hanukkah Menorahs

We had a rainy Friday in Room 2. We began the day indoors with Nutrition and by collecting the weekly homework. After morning activities, we read "Is It Hanukkah Yet?" and discussed some Hanukkah traditions. At language arts rotations, students made their own menorah ornament using crayons, glue, and macaroni. My groups read "I See Sam" and wrote a letter to Kayla, our Star of the Week. The other groups had secret centers. After some indoor recess, we recited "Little Bo-Peep," did some rhyming, sang "Apples and Bananas," reviewed our sight words, and started math. We worked on comparing numbers, looking for more and fewer as a way to subtract.

We ate lunch outside by the cafeteria, which was nice. We couldn't have outdoor recess with all the rain puddles, so we watched a movie about food chains in Room 2 with Mrs. Lee's class. It was "The Magic School Gets Eaten." When we were done, we practiced our three holiday songs and finished our math from the morning. We also looked for Zero Heroes! Then we read "Eight Nights of Hanukkah" and made a different menorah using markers and crayons. For Star of the Week, Kayla had us estimate buttons. There were 19 buttons. Mr. Ricker guessed it exactly!  To end the day, we packed up Friday Folders and played some "Mr. Ricker Says." We also gave out prizes for 20 super star sticks and certifcates for an all green week. Have a great weekend!

Don't forget that our holiday party is next Thursday at 1:00 and that next Friday is a 12:35 dismissal day.
