The Letter Q and Candy Canes

We had a busy start to our last week of school before Winter Break!  After collecting Friday Folders, we took care of our morning business. After I read "My Q Book,"we brainstormed "Q" words. There aren't that many, so do your best on the homework this week. At language arts rotations, we read "I Like, We Like" and did the tactile page "Q-Tips on Qs on a Quilt." My groups finished decorating a holiday gift, practiced "Q" handwriting, and wrote "Q" question sentences. It was challenging, but worthwhile. The other groups had secret centers.  After snack and recess, we introduced our new poem "Jack Be Nimble." It's pretty short, so a lot of students were able to recite it today.  Then we had math. We practiced solving subtraction problems by acting it out, and by using counters.

After lunch, we read "Snow Bear's Christmas Countdown."  Then we had language mixing with Room 10. My group talked about gingerbread cookies and other scrumptious foods. The we read "The Gingerbread Man" and sequenced the story. We're making it into a book that we write in tomorrow.  We introduced our Star of the Week Finn next. He showed us his cool poster and took questions. We went out for P.E. but had to have free recess instead since our game space was occupied. To end the day, we had a candy cane activity. I'd tell you more, but it's a surprise!  Then we packed up, passed out homework folders, and lined up for home.

We do have a regular homework packet this week, due on Friday. Don't forget our Music performance at 2:00 on Wednesday and our holiday party at 11:00 on Friday, which is a 12:35 early dismissal day. Oh, and if you haven't turned in your $6.00 for the Eco-Station classes, please do so by Wednesday. Thank you!
