Earth's Layers and Free Form Shapes

Another productive day today in Room 2. After morning business, we read "O is for Owl" and "Earth."  For language arts centers, we made a layered Earth project. It had a top layer showing what covers the outside of the Earth (land and water) and a bottom layer that shows the layers inside of the Earth (crust, mantle and core). After they were stapled, they look like a little book! At my table, we read "I Am a Doctor" and wrote letters to Emerson, the Star of the Week. The other tables finished their last secret center of this rotation. After snack and recess, we recited "Old Woman in a Shoe" and had math. We worked on problem solving by drawing a picture.  Students worked with a partner to write their own addition problems and then drawing a picture to solve.

After lunch, we read two short holiday books, "Christmas Cats" and "Christmas Mice" and had art. We reviewed geometric and free form shapes. We made pictures that showed both geometric and free form shapes in them using oil pastels and water colors. Our project ran long, so we had some indoor choose time instead of P.E.  To end the day, we worked on oral blending, identifying beginning and ending sounds, reviewing our sight words, and finishing our math with a partner from earlier in the day. Then we lined up for home!

Homework is due tomorrow, so be sure to finish and check over your packets tonight!
